True North is based on the tale of a fallen star child's journey northward across the Arctic, following a vision quest that ultimately leads her back to her home in the Sky World. Tristan Moore's original soundtrack for the 2010 stage production by the Children's Dance Theatre has now been remastered as a CD that stands on its own as a compelling, evocative listening experience.
Full of glassy, bell-like textures evoking the cold, ice-bound beauty of Northern landscapes, this CD features rousing percussion, sweeping passages of orchestral grandeur, and memorable melodies brought to life by the haunting sound of the Native American flute and the powerful voice of Kait Kingston.
Vast open spaces of ice and snow, the shimmering colors of the Aurora Borealis, and the tenacity of the animal and human communities inhabiting the Pacific Northwest and the Arctic: these are some of the images and ideas that inspired the music of True North. It is the soundtrack for an epic adventure full of danger and stark beauty.
